How to Export Your Oura Ring Sleep Data

Step-by-step instructions to export your sleep data as a CSV file and upload it to your Study Dashboard.

Data we access We only use sleep-related data from your export: sleep stages, duration, timing, heart rate variability, and resting heart rate. Activity, readiness, and other Oura metrics are not used in this study.

Export Instructions

    Open the Oura app on your phone

    Launch the Oura app on your iOS or Android device. Make sure you are logged in to the account connected to your Oura Ring.

    Tap the menu icon in the top left

    Look for the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the upper-left corner of the screen. Tap it to open the navigation menu.

    Select "Settings"

    From the navigation menu, scroll down and tap Settings. This opens your account and app preferences.

    Scroll down and tap "Data Export"

    In the Settings menu, scroll until you find the Data Export option. It is typically in the "Account" or "Data" section near the bottom.

    Select your study date range

    Set the Start Date to your study Day 1 and the End Date to your current study day (or Day 14 if the study is complete). Check your Study Dashboard for exact dates.

    Choose "CSV" format

    When prompted to select an export format, choose CSV. This is the format our system can process automatically.

    Tap "Export"

    Tap the Export button. Oura will prepare your data and email it to the address associated with your Oura account. This may take a few minutes.

    Check your email and download the CSV

    Open your email inbox and look for a message from Oura with the subject "Your Oura data export." Download the attached CSV file to your device.

    Upload the CSV on your Study Dashboard

    Go to your Study Dashboard, find the "Upload Oura Data" section, and select your downloaded CSV file. The system will validate and import your sleep data automatically.

Troubleshooting

What if I don't see "Data Export" in Settings?
Data Export is available on Oura Gen 3 and newer models with an active subscription. If you are using an older Oura Ring, you can export data through the Oura Web Dashboard at cloud.ouraring.com. Log in, go to Settings > Data Export, and follow the same steps above.
I didn't receive the export email.
Check your spam or junk folder. Oura exports can take up to 15 minutes to arrive. If you still don't see it after 30 minutes, try the export again. Make sure the email address on your Oura account is correct.
The upload is failing on my dashboard.
Ensure you selected CSV format (not JSON) during export. The file should end in .csv. If the issue persists, contact our research team at research@renuebyscience.com.
Can I export from the Oura website instead of the app?
Yes. Visit cloud.ouraring.com, sign in, and navigate to Settings > Data Export. The web export works identically and produces the same CSV format.
Privacy note We only access sleep-related data (sleep stages, duration, timing). Your activity data, personal information, and other Oura metrics are not viewed, stored, or analyzed as part of this study.
